October Yearling Sales Results
Catridge Farm Stud enjoyed a hugely successful October Yearling Sales when selling two of the top Lots over two days of excellent trade. A filly by DBS yearling KYLLACHY was the star of the show when she realised 60,000 guineas to a final bid made by David Brown, standing with trainer Bryan Smart. The athletic, precocious looking filly is a full sister to a two year old winner, out of the Listed placed ELSIE PLUNKETT and has been bought for owner Ron Hull.

Lot 892. Kyllachy - Elsie Plunkett who realised 60,000 guineas
The same consignors enjoyed further success when a filly by another DBS yearling, ACCLAMATION made 50,000 guineas with Stuart Kittow signing the docket. The second crop of ACCLAMATION have been well received in the sales ring following the tremendous achievements of his first crop of two year olds, headed by DBS graduate DARK ANGEL, winner of the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes. The sales topping filly is out of a winning dam, from the family of ARC ROYAL and ARC DE TRIOMPHE.

Lot 737. Acclamation - Just A Glimmer who realised 50,000 guineas
David Brown struck again when he signed for another daughter of ACCLAMATION. Consigned by Furnace Mill Stud, the March born filly was out of a winning half sister to the Graded Stakes placed Twin Spires and will also run in the colours of Ron Hull after realising 55,000 guineas.
David Nicholls bought a number of yearlings throughout the two day sale, headed by Lot 701. The strong, racy son of the speedy CAPTAIN RIO was consigned by Ash Tree Farm and attracted plenty of attention before the Yorkshire trainer had the final say at 26,000 guineas. He is from a fast family and will be in the care of a trainer who specialises with this type of horse, so he looks to have an exciting future ahead of him.

The sale got off to a fantastic start when Kevin Ryan signed for a son of CHOISIR and the trend continued a few lots later when Bobby O'Ryan signed for a February born son of VAL ROYAL, sire of DBS graduate and dual Classic winner COCKNEY REBEL. Later in the day, James Given signed for a half sister to one of his stable stars TRICK OR TREAT. The February born MARK OF ESTEEM filly was consigned by New Hall Stud and will now join her half brother at the Lincolnshire trainer's base.
England Footballer Michael Owen was in attendance at the sale and he made his presence felt when paying 21,000 guineas for a March born son of Golan. Catalogued as Lot number 781, the Colt was consigned by Ardrums House Stud and is a half brother to the Listed winning PONTY ROSSA. The soccer star was bidding with trainer Nicky Vaughan, who eventually signed for the colt and will train him from their newly developed Cheshire base.
The sale was particularly well attended by many agents and trainers who had orders for good commercial yearlings. This made for two days of lively trade and proved that Doncaster is the place to sell commercial yearlings in October, prompting DBS Managing Director, Henry Beeby to say after the sale:
'The Doncaster October Yearling Sales is a success.
It is a success on the racetrack as evidenced by the wonderful value and quality illustrated on the front cover of the catalogue and it is an undoubted success in the sales ring following two days of lively, vibrant trade for the horses on offer. Indeed, we have been delighted to reverse the trends set elsewhere at earlier commercial yearling sales and return improved figures across the board with a 20% rise in average and a 25% rise in median. The improved figures are backed up by a clearance rate of 78% which does not just reverse earlier trends but is in total contrast to them. Our pleasure at the statistics is further enhanced by the positive response from so many vendors who were so pleased with their results in the sales ring.
But the real feature of the DBS October Yearling Sales has been the really excellent atmosphere from start to finish which emanated from a large crowd of buyers who came to Doncaster safe in the knowledge that this sale, whilst it may not be the most fashionable place to buy, is a consistent source of winner after winner.'
