The second highest price ever at a DBS Sale was recorded on the final day of the 2007 Spring Sales when DE SOTO realised 360,000 guineas to the bid of Jonjo O'Neill. He will now run in the colors of Gay Smith and looks to be an exciting Novice Chaser next season. The price has only been bettered once at DBS - at this sale in 2004 - and capped a tremendous trade for NH horses with form.

De Soto sold to Jonjo O'Neill for 360,000 gns
One of the last lots of the sale fell to a final bid of 290,000 guineas when Howard Johnson signed for Lot 1022. KEALSHORE BOY has won his first two bumpers starts for trainer Gary Moore before finishing second in the Champion Bumper at Aintree and will join the powerful Johnson string under the ownership Andrea and Graham Wylie.
I HEAR A SYMPHONY (Lot 778) was a very close second at Punchestown before he won a Limerick bumper by two and a half lengths before he realised 260,000 guineas to the bid of Aiden Murphy. He will now go in to training with Philip Hobbs, along with RING THE BOSS (Lot 646) who was also purchased by Aiden Murphy for 100,000 guineas after winning his last three starts.
The annual Million in Mind dispersal is always one of the highlights of this sale and 2007 did not disappoint with GOOD SPIRIT (Lot 685) being sold for 200,000 guineas to Forge Bloodstock and MARODIMA (Lot 683) selling for 145,000 guineas to Paul Nicholls, resulting in the whole consignment turning over 511,000 guineas which exceeded expectations.
Managing Director Henry Beeby was delighted with the sale and said afterwards:
"The second highest price in DBS' history has yet again confirmed the Doncaster Spring Sales as the World's Premier National Hunt Sales.
The magnificent price of 360,000 guineas (which converted to €565,200) for former DBS NH Breezer DE SOTO capped another exceptional weeks' trading that again illustrated that DBS continue to achieve the maximum price for NH performers on an ongoing basis.
The 2006 Sale was always going to be a hard act to follow and, although we have not quite matched that record breaking total , the average has advanced which tells us the trade was good and we are more than satisfied with the week's business.
I commented earlier in the week on the really excellent store trade on Tuesday which contrasted with a rather more selective day on Monday. The logical answer is to catalogue alphabetically by dam and it is very likely that we will do so with the stores next year. However, our day two average of 22,650 guineas (up 22%) illustrated our continuing ability to sell this category as well as anyone.
The overall Horses in Training trade has proved to be as strong as ever with nine six figure transactions headed by the top price of 360,000 guineas which came during a very strong final session that was up 42%. Whilst there have been many significant Vendors who have contributed to the sale, I must again make mention of the Million in Mind Dispersal which really captures the imagination each year and is a great credit to the selection and management of Anthony Bromley and David Minton.
Competition is a wonderful thing and it has never been even more fierce in the National Hunt market. However, we thrive on a challenge and I emphatically believe that the Doncaster Spring Sales have more than risen to the challenge this week and feel 100% justified in continuing to proclaim this sale as the World's Premier National Hunt Sales".
