Overturn lands Grade 1 Fighting Fifth Hurdle

Overturn became the first horse to add a win in Newcastle's big jump race to victory in the track's biggest Flat race when the Northumberland Plate winner of 2010 landed the Grade 1 Fighting Fifth Hurdle in 2011.

The versatile seven-year-old made all the running for trainer Donald McCain under jockey Jason Maguire to win by four and a half lengths and the jockey said after the race:

‘That was brilliant. All credit to the horse - the ground was bit dead for him today but he's won despite that, the big thing about him is his jumping. He never misses a beat and gets away from his hurdles so quickly. You'd struggle to ride a gamer horse than him.’

Overturn was sold by Walter Swinburn Stables to Donald McCain for £75,000 at the DBS October HIT Sales 2009 and now boasts earnings over £550,000.
