Goffs/DBS graduate Excelebration gains deserved Group 1 victory
Excelebration landed his first victory at the highest level when showing a telling turn of foot to land the Group 1 Qatar Prix du Moulin de Longchamp.
Having twice won at Group 2 level, the Marco Botti trained son of Exceed and Excel was having his first run since a share was sold to Coolmore and repaid their faith by coming home a length and a half in front of his nearest rivals.
The winning trainer said after the race: ‘I was very, very pleased with the performance and was a little worried about the ground as it was quite testing’.
The winner was sold by Owenstown Stud to John Walsh Bloodstock for €15,000 at the Goffs November Foal Sale 2008 and was re-sold by Owenstown Stud to Marco Botti for £20,000 at the DBS Premier Yearling Sales 2009. He will now be aimed at either the Group 1 QEII stakes at Ascot or the Breeders Cup, where he could race with fellow Goffs/DBS graduates Strong Suit, Cape Blanco, Red Duke, Casper Netcher.
